The drawings on this page represent four years of work. They are spun off from the older music notations and Drawing into Space project, which took different routes to exploring a temporal drawing practice. The music notations, of course, use Time as a character in their compositional schemes, while the Laser drawings expand strangely, somewhere in the gulfs of spacetime.

The drawings you see here began as explorations of the geometry at the heart of those older projects. There are some from a series of what I call “retrograde” drawings, that is, drawings that move backwards in time. Some of them explore growth through the natural phenomenon of Bootstrapping, that tendency in organic systems to build complexity out of simplicity. Some of the drawings explore Fire, that chaotic object of fantasy and renewal. There are also images
of our great, boundaryless Sun, and a few very recent drawings that explore Friction as a fundamental force of nature.

They are all made from inks, crayons, pencils, charcoal, and acrylic paint with digital elements,
on excellent paper, and range from 12 to 44 inches in size.
